Better Living Through Giving, a JCF Giving Circle, received 22 proposals to its Spark Joy grant program. Proposals were accepted May 1-June 1, 2021. Grants of up to $1,500 were made to ten individuals and nonprofits throughout Jefferson County. Local projects/programs selected include:

Plankton Tile Project
Artists and volunteers will lead clay tile workshops for sixth graders at Chimacum School to give students a hands-on introduction to public art. Tiles displayed at the JUMP! Playground at HJ Carroll Park, which breaks ground in Spring 2022. 

YEA Summer Music Camp
Summer music camps for 120+ JeffCo youth (grades 5-12) at Fort Worden.

Jeffco Vamonos
Field trips to cultural centers in King County and experiential learning for at-risk, low-income, rural JeffCo youth (ages 12-18).

Hiking with a Local
A series of three downloadable, interactive videos that take out-of-county visitors on guided tours of notable WA State Parks and USFS trails with South JeffCo residents to connect local culture to nationally-known local trails.

JC MASH
Three volunteers will engage a local artist to create a new, meaningful logo for Jefferson County Medical Advocacy & Services Headquarters (JC MASH).

Wellness Classes on the Farm
Free outdoor wellness classes that encourage stress recovery and wholistic wellness.

Discs of Joy
Reweaving the social fabric of community for local high school students by offering a “9 Hole” disc golf course and equipment and helping to reintegrate students, teachers, administrators and parents into PTHS this summer and fall.

Grammy’s Jammies
A small group of talented crafters who reside at Avamere Port Townsend Assisted Living will make 20+ pairs of pajamas in various sizes and designs for JeffCo foster kids.

Look to the Stars 
Port Townsend Public Library (PTPL) will purchase three easy-to-use, high-quality telescope kits and make them available for check out with a guide to how to host a neighborhood “Star Gazing Party” following the Healthy Washington reopening plan.

Cake Picnic
Cake Picnic celebrates community through cake. The volunteer team serves free, delicious, handmade cake to thousands of people as the culminating event of the annual Rhododendron Festival as an effort to bring JeffCo residents and honored guests together.
