Cain\, Ph.D.\nOffered FREE to employees and board members of Jefferson County Nonprofit organizations\n\n  \nDate/Time: September 10\, 2026  •  1:30—4:30\nLocation: Jefferson Community Foundation\n\n  \nRSVP required\n\n  \nFundraising 101: A Practical Guide to the Elements of Fundraising is an introductory\, half-day fundraising fundamentals course. The seminar offers an “identity” and “belonging” framework for engaging donors that’s grounded in relationship building and trust. It outlines seven practices that high-performing nonprofits perform consistently over time to raise more money. Directors of development\, executive directors\, board members\, and nonprofit staff members involved in fundraising\, marketing\, and community outreach\, will benefit from this introductory course. The seminar is free and open to nonprofits serving in Jefferson County.\n\n\n \nThe seminar is taught by Jeffrey J. Cain\, Ph.D. and is based upon his book The Forgotten Foundations of Fundraising: Practical Advice and Contrarian Wisdom for Nonprofit Leaders (Wiley 2019) as well as his 25 years of business\, nonprofit\, and private charitable foundation executive leadership and consulting experience. Jeff speaks and publishes regularly on philanthropy\, civil society\, nonprofit management\, and fundraising. Jeff is also executive director of Jumping Mouse Children’s Center and principal at Lemolo Bay Advisors\, a fundraising consulting firm dedicated to serving nonprofit organizations whose missions are unambiguously good.

He founded D.C. Central Kitchen and L.A. Kitchen and was a founding board member of World Central Kitchen with Chef José Andrés. Collectively\, these organizations have provided hundreds of millions of meals while helping thousands of people build pathways to employment and greater economic stability.\n\nRobert has also been an advocate for the nonprofit sector and its essential role in communities\, serving as co-convener of the first Nonprofit Congress and founding CForward. He is the author of Begging for Change\, a James Beard Foundation Humanitarian of the Year\, and an Oprah Angel. Now describing himself as a dedicated “elder ally\,” Robert spends much of his time encouraging and supporting leaders who are working to create bold\, meaningful change.\n\nThis will be an informal and uplifting afternoon designed to make space for connection\, conversation\, and inspiration. We’ll share refreshments and have time to mingle\, exchange ideas\, and connect with others doing meaningful work across our community.
